Dallas high school student beaten to death outside home

DALLAS - A Dallas high school student who was beaten outside his house on Sunday night died Monday, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Troy Causey, 18, was found unconscious at his home in Oak Cliff around 9 p.m. Sunday, according to the paper. His death was confirmed Monday night by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Wilmer-Hutchins High School student and two suspects were witnessed arguing and then fighting in the street, a male neighbor told authorities. Police reports said that a female housemate of the neighbor yelled at the suspects after one of them allegedly hit Causey in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Both suspects then fled on foot, the Morning News reports.

Police reports state that the housemate called police after going out to check on Causey, who was lying unconscious on the street. The victim was taken to Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas with a fractured skill and bleeding and swelling in the brain.

"Troy was a wonderful kid, an excellent kid," Ron Price, Troy's stepfather, told the paper. "Today was the day he was scheduled to make a college visit. The family decided to donate his organs so that other children would have an opportunity at life - to allow his death to be a blessing to others."

Dallas police are re-interviewing witnesses. Police spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey told the Morning News that there is not a good description of the suspects and that the cause of the deadly fight is currently unknown.
