Dad Accused Of Mutilating Son Heard Voices
A friend of the father accused of biting out his 4-year-old son's eyes says the man had stopped taking his medication and was hearing voices in the month before the incident.
Authorities had said Angel Mendoza appeared to be high on the drug PCP during the attack, but Artie Gray told the Bakersfield Californian Friday that Mendoza was adamant about not taking any illegal drugs for the past two years.
Mendoza is charged with attacking his son on April 28, biting out his left eye and severely injuring the right. Mendoza, who is wheelchair bound, then started hacking the boy's legs with an ax.
Gray says Mendoza had been showing signs of psychosis after halting his prescription marijuana and other medications more than a month ago.
