Cops: Woman admitted fatally stabbing lawyer at DC hotel
WASHINGTON, D.C. - A 21-year-old woman charged with stabbing a lawyer to death at an upscale Washington, D.C. hotel intended to rob the man but stabbed him in his room when he grabbed her and tried to prevent her from leaving, police said the assailant told them.
Jamyra Gallmon of Washington, D.C. was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder while armed. A court document filed Thursday says Gallmon told police that she went to The Donovan Hotel on Feb. 9 with the intention of robbing 30-year-old David Messerschmitt but stabbed him after he grabbed her arm and they started fighting.
She also allegedly admitted to stealing Messerschmitt's metro card and further evidence revealed she also took cash, reports CBS affiliate WUSA.
The court document says an investigation found Messerschmitt posted on Craigslist soliciting responses from other men and communicated with an account linked to Gallmon on the day of his death. Police said the communications between the two included Messerschmitt telling Gallmon his location at the Donovan Hotel, reports WUSA.
Gallmon was reportedly using the e-mail address chrissanchez0906@yahoo.com. Police are asking anyone who may have been in contact with that e-mail address to contact them.
Gallmon's attorney did not immediately respond to a telephone message requesting comment. The 21-year-old appeared in court on Thursday and her lawyer entered a not guilty plea on her behalf, according to the station.
Messerschmitt was found dead in a room at the hotel on Feb. 10. His wife reported him missing the day before.
Following the discovery of his body, police released a surveillance video of a person of interest seen on the hotel stairs and in the lobby on Feb. 9. Police confirmed on Thursday that Gallmon is the person of interest seen in the video.
