Cops: Man shoots father dead after father kills three

ROWLAND HEIGHTS, Calif. --A 33-year-old man shot and killed his 54-year-old father at a suburban Los Angeles home New Year's Eve after the older man gunned down three others, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department statement.

The sheriff's department says detectives responded to the home in Rowland Heights around 8:30 Thursday night on the report of a person shot. When they arrived, they found a 27-year-old woman, a 48-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman and the 54-year-old man all suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics pronounced them dead on the scene, officials say.

Witnesses told detectives the 54-year-old man took a handgun and shot the other victims. The man's son then wrestled the gun away from his father and shot him once, killing him. It's not known why the older man opened fire, according to the sheriff's department.

The 33-year-old man was arrested for the murder of his father and is being held on $1,000,000 bail, according to officials.

Detectives say they found the murder weapon, a semi-automatic handgun, at the scene.
