Cops: Pizza man shot while making delivery in Fla.

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. - A pizza delivery man is recovering after police in Miami-Dade, Fla. say he was shot while making a delivery, reports CBS Miami.

Gustavo Gutierrez-Escoria, 59, was making a delivery at a home at around 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning, police said.

When he arrived at the home, Gutierrez-Escoria reportedly said no one answered the door, so he called a contact number for the customer. The person who answered the call reportedly told him to wait as cash was retrieved from a nearby ATM.

Police said a car pulled up and Gutierrez-Escoria got out of his delivery car to deliver the pizza. According to police, that's when two armed masked males demanded Gutierrez-Escoria's money and emptied his pockets.

As Gutierrez-Escoria attempted to flee, police said the subjects started shooting and hit Gutierrez-Escoria's vehicle several times. Gutierrez-Escoria was also hit but managed to drive to the Pizza Hut where he works and call his daughter-in-law for help, reports the station.

"He told me they've assaulted me I'm at work and they shot me I need someone to come now," the man's daughter-in-law, Laura Quevedo, told CBS Miami.

"I was scared. I didn't know how serious the injuries were. I didn't know how many times I didn't know where he got shot. I didn't know if they were chasing him I didn't know who had done it I didn't know anything," she continued.

Family members found Gutierrez-Escoria at the Pizza Hut. From there, a helicopter rushed him to a hospital where he was listed in intensive care, according to the station.

"It's sad to see that people like that are on the street and for nothing. For $50, they're doing that to someone it's stupid," said Quevedo.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday evening.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
