Cops: Man impersonating Pa. D.A. steals pizza, beer

BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Police say a man impersonating the Allegheny County, Pa. district attorney stole food and beer at numerous businesses, reports CBS Pittsburgh.

State police say the man first went to a Butler tobacco shop Wednesday morning where he told a clerk that he was Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala as he attempted to get free goods.

By the afternoon, authorities say he had altered his story slightly when he went to Kari and Jeff Eberhardt's business.

Kari Eberhardt, who owns Pizza Joe's, said, "The guy comes in and pretends to be from the D.A.'s office which struck me weird because usually someone that comes in like that doesn't advertise who they are."

The impersonator then told Jeff Eberhardt that he's not Zappala, but instead, works for him.

"[He said], 'I [The impersonator] ordered pizza here a couple weeks ago, they messed up my orders.' He said, 'I'm with the D.A.'s office],' and he's wondering if we could replace them," Jeff Eberhardt said, according to the station.

The story didn't seem right, but they decided to take the $40 hit in an effort to make the customer happy.

The man then asked where the closest beer distributor was, according to the station.

Investigators say he then used a similar story to steal a case of beer from the Drive Thru Beverage Beer store.

The man is described as a white male in his mid-40, about 6-feet-2-inches tall, weighing 200 to 240 pounds with light-colored hair and a mustache.

He was last seen leaving the Butler County area in a late-model, white Crown Victoria.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen him to give them a call.
