Cops: La. couple and sons, 2 and 4, dead in apparent murder-suicide
MARRERO, La. -- Authorities in a New Orleans suburb say a couple and their sons, ages 2 and 4, were found fatally stabbed in an apparent murder-suicide inside a home.
Sheriff Newell Normand released the identities of the dead as 46-year-old David Mata, 40-year-old Kelli Mata, 4-year-old Caden Mata and 2-year-old Liam Mata.
He said Kelli Mata's 18-year-old daughter from a previous marriage was the one who found her relatives. CBS affiliate WWLTV reports she had been returning home from a hunting trip, and fled and called 911 after making the gruesome discovery.
Sheriff's spokesman Col. John Fortunato said investigators believe that David Mata killed the others and then himself in the house in Marrero, outside New Orleans.
He said both adults' bodies were in the living room, and that the boys' bodies were in separate bedrooms.
There's was no history of domestic violence calls to the home, Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, told the station.
