Cops investigate "suspicious" deaths of N.M. girl, man
RIO RANCHO, N.M. - Police are investigating after a 7-year-old girl and a 56-year-old man were found dead under suspicious circumstances Wednesday, reports CBS affiliate KRQE.
According to the station, officers arrived at the home around 5:30 p.m. because the mother of the child was trying to make contact with her ex-husband to retrieve the girl.
When police went to the door, an adult child of the ex-husband reportedly answered and said the man was sleeping. He then returned to the door later and said the man and the child were dead, according to KRQE.
Officers entered the home and found the man and child. They called in detectives who are investigating the case. The Associated Press reports the man who died is the girl's father. No arrests have been made and no causes of death have been released.
"The deaths have been deemed suspicious at this point," Lt. Paul Rogers of Rio Rancho Police said Wednesday night. "Detectives of the Rio Rancho Police Department are obtaining search warrants and processing evidence and trying to determine the events that led to the deaths of those persons."
