Cops: Day care center workers watched tots fight
(CBS News) DOVER, Del. - Three daycare employees were arrested Monday for allegedly watching toddlers under their care fight each other and egging them on, reports CBS station KYW-TV in Philadelphia.
The license of the daycare center involved has been suspended pending a hearing, authorities say.
Police in Dover, Del. say the workers from the Hands of Our Future Daycare were taken into custody after a cell phone video taken by one of them in March showed them watching two three-year-olds fight each other, and encouraging the behavior.
Tiana Harris, 19, Lisa Parker, 47, and Estefania Myers, 21, were charged with assault, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangering and conspiracy.
In the video, according to police, one child is seen crying and yelling, "He's pinching me," and a worker responds, "No pinching, only punching."
"Clearly, one of the children is crying and does not want to continue on and he is pushed back into the fray by one of the adults," Dover Police Capt. Tim Stump said.
Cristyl Slack says her 4-year-old daughter was in the room when the fight occurred.
"That pissed me off, just because I feel if my daughter is around anything, I should have known that day," Slack told KYW.
"I can't ever believe in a million years -- I mean -- I would have to see the proof to believe it," parent Amy Bickling said.
Police say the fight video isn't being shown to parents or the public because it is evidence.
Efforts by KYW to reach the owner of the daycare center were not successful.
