Cops: Conn. man charged in wife's "accidental" shooting

NORWICH, Conn. -- An eastern Connecticut man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife.

Police responding to a report of an accidental shooting at a Norwich apartment just after 8 p.m. Monday found 58-year-old Dianna Hodgdon with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

She was pronounced dead after emergency responders arrived at the scene.

Police say an initial investigation led them to suspect the shooting was not accidental. They arrested her husband, 56-year-old James Hodgdon, on Tuesday.

The State's Attorney's Office, state police and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are assisting Norwich police in their investigation.

Authorities have not released a possible motive. It could not be determined if James Hodgdon had a lawyer.
