Man dies in crash on way to see son's birth
GREELEY, Colo. -- A Greeley man who was on his way to see his wife give birth to his second son has died after colliding with a semitrailer on U.S. 85 near the Wyoming border. He crashed less than 30 minutes before his son Kaleb was born.
The Greeley Tribune reports 29-year-old Jorge Serrano left work in Cheyenne Monday when he heard his wife was in labor.
Authorities say Serrano had lost control of his vehicle on the icy roadway, drifted across the center line and smashed head-on into the semitrailer.
The semitrailer driver wasn't seriously injured.
Serrano's son, Kaleb Andre Serrano, who measured 19 inches and weighed 6.1 pounds, was born at North Colorado Medical Center, CBS Cheyenne affiliate KGWN reports. Serrano is survived by his wife and 6-year-old son.
The crash comes less than a month after another Colorado man driving his pregnant wife to the hospital crashed and died near Fort Collins after apparently suffering some kind of medical problem.
