Coach Mike Anderson expected to sign extention with Missouri
(CBS/AP) - Mizzou basketball coach Mike Anderson has been a hot commodity for years, keeping Missouri fans on the edge of their seats at the end of the past three seasons. Now it looks like a contract extension is in the works that will keep Anderson with the Tigers amidst rumors that Arkansas is looking to poach the architect of the "Fastest 40 Minutes in Basketball."
Anderson's agent, Jimmy Sexton, told Memphis radio station WHBQ-AM Tuesday morning that "we've been in discussion with them for several weeks now."
Sexton is a Memphis resident who also represents several ACC, SEC and NFL coaches. He added that while "nothing is imminent" he expects "some resolution ... in the next few days."
The news should come as a comfort for anxious Mizzou fans after days of contradicting stories. On Saturday, the sports director of KTUL-TV, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, wrote on twitter that Anderson would be "introduced tomorrow in Fayetteville as Razorbacks new head basketball coach."
CBSSports.com, ESPN and other outlets rushed to report the story. But now it seems Anderson will be staying put in Columbia.
Anderson led Missouri to its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in his five years in Columbia. He spent 17 years as an Arkansas assistant under Nolan Richardson.
Arkansas fired John Pelphrey as its coach on March 13. Pelphrey was 69-59 in four seasons with the Razorbacks.
