Close Call On Music Type For 1st Face Off

When the first two of six finalist musical groups take each other on next week in The Early Show's "Singing Family Face Off," they'll be belting out songs from the Rock/Pop genre -- one neither wanted!

But only after a do-over of co-anchor Harry Smith spinning the casino-like wheel of choices on the show's set in New York.

On Feb. 25, The Oswald Brothers and Boardwine Family will meet head-to-head.

To determine type of music they'll perform, Smith tugged on a wheel listing Rock/Pop, show tunes, gospel, '80s hits, Country & Western, and R&B hits.

The Oswalds voiced a preference for country, and the Boardwines for '80s hits.

At first, the wheel appeared to land on C&W, pleasing the Oswalds. But the pointer was actually right on the line between '80s hit and C&W, so Smith had to spin the wheel again.

This time, there was no doubt: Rock/Pop, it will be.

Tune in to The Early Show next Wednesday to see the Oswalds and Boardwines go at it, one-on-one, doing a Rock/Pop song of their choosing from a list the show will send them.

The Early Show searched for months, going through hundreds of videos submitted by family bands, then narrowed the field to six finalists.

Each weekday morning from Feb. 16 through Feb. 23, Price will be surprising the six family finalists with the big news, live on The Early Show.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, the competition begins with live performances in The Early Show studio. Vote for your favorite online each week! The winning family will be announced April 1.

At stake: a deal with CBS Records!
