Clindamycin: What is It? Is it Safe?
(CBS) What is clindamycin and what is it used for?
Acne and malaria are only a couple of the medical conditions that can be treated with the antibiotic known as clindamycin.
The drug, which is available by prescription, is also used to treat bacterial infections that affect the lungs, skin, blood, internal organs, and female reproductive system. It's also used to treat malaria.
Clindamycin doesn't kill the viruses that cause colds and flu. And like other antibiotics, clindamycin can cause overgrowth of dangerous bacteria in the large intestine. This can occur during treatment with clindamycin or up to several months after treatment has ended.
