Classic Sonic the Hedgehog meets modern Sonic in new "Generations" video game
(CBS) - For over a decade the fans of Sonic the Hedgehog have cried out for a return to the classic side-scrolling high-speed action. They exclaimed "nay" to finding glitching gameplay, interspecies romances, or a red sea of forgettable furry anamorphic pals in previous, lackluster Sonic releases.
This time around in "Sonic Generations," Sonic's new friend is...Sonic - the classic '90s chili-dog-eating, family-band-playing, fastest-thing-alive version.
Not wishing to alienate current-gen fans, both the new age and the old-school Sonics are fully playable, and they travel through levels custom-tailored to their respective play styles in classic 2D or full 3D mode.
But is it a good game? Well, reviewers seem to think so. According to Metacritic, review scores have been mostly favorable at 77 out of 100.
Both old-timers looking for a hit of nostalgia or those who enjoyed the newer titles will find something to enjoy in this flurry-filled package.
Sonic Generations is available now on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will also be available for the Nintendo 3DS on November 22, 2011, and has been rated "E for Everyone" by the ESRB.
