Clarkson Tells Her Story On "My December"
Kelly Clarkson has lit up the entertainment news headlines lately. She recently canceled her summer concert tour, fired her manager Jeff Kwatinetz, and decided to write and produce her new album, "My December," despite warnings against doing so from RCA CEO Clive Davis.
On Monday's The Early Show Kelly Clarkson talked with Hannah Storm as part of the Summer Concert Series about her latest album and her love for touring.
Clarkson wrote every song on "My December" and believes it gives an insight into her life. "It's a different chapter in my life," she said. "And it's got a lot of ups and downs. It's definitely an emotional roller coaster of an album."
For this album, Clarkson wrote 60 songs and needed to whittle it down to 13. She described the process of narrowing down the songs as "fun." "These songs fit together and tell a story. I've never had an album that is cohesive and tells a story from beginning to end, so this is a first time for me," Clarkson said.
Clarkson is also working on a new album with material not used on "My December." Her latest project is a combination of acoustic country, rock and blues.
With a canceled summer tour, Clarkson is itching to get back on the road. She expressed that touring is her favorite part of being a musician. Despite her affinity for touring, Clarkson said that she has too many changes going on in her life professionally to put together a successful tour. She said, "We want to make sure we have the right team around us and the right tour."
With all of the turmoil in her life lately, Clarkson emphasized the importance of keeping things in perspective and seizing opportunities. She said, "Life is too short to be a robot. You might as well do the things you want to do and accomplish the things you want to accomplish."
