Chilling 911 logs reveal horror of Charleston church shooting
A newly released police report reveals the horror inside Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, the night of the massacre in June. Nine people were murdered at the historic black church, including the pastor, Clementa Pinckney.
The police logs were released late Thursday evening. A chilling incident report begins with text of a 911 call on June 17 at 9:05 p.m.
It was from a woman, who didn't identify herself. She said she was hiding under a table, that a man had shot the pastor, and that he was still in the building.
She said there were people shot all around her. At 9:07 the woman said the man was reloading. When asked how many shots were fired, she answered "so many."
At 9:08 p.m., Rev. Clementa Pinckney's wife called and said she was hiding under the desk in the office with her daughter. She said she could hear people moaning outside the office. She explained the shooter entered through the back door and came through the office.
At one point she said "so many people dead I think." It was later learned that her husband, the reverend, was among those killed.
Photos in the police report show the church's office, possibly where Mrs. Pinckney hid.
Police quickly put out a "be on the lookout" call for an unknown 21-year-old white male wearing a gray shirt, Timberland boots and jeans.
By the next day at 11:58 a.m. the call was cancelled.
Dylann Roof was arrested. Photos show his car, and the pillow in the backseat, where he told police he had his gun.
