Cher Comes Back Again
With her hit song Believe, from her album of the same name, Cher becomes the artist with the longest span of No. 1 hits in pop music history. It's been 33 years between chart toppers I Got You Babe and Believe.
Cher, 52, is on the verge of yet another comeback, reports CBS This Morning Co-Anchor Mark McEwen. She gathered the press to announce her next step: A summer concert tour, to kick off in Phoenix, Ariz., June 16.
This will be Cher's first tour in eight years. So what can her audiences expect?
"Lots of, you know, 'Cher-type' things," says the performer. "It won't be sedate or plain or tasteful."
Tuesday night, Cher is joining Whitney Houston, Brandy, and Tina Turner for the VH1 Divas '99 concert.
"I'm gonna sing three songs and try my utmost to be fabulous and diva-like," she quips.
That shouldn't be a problem for Cher. But naming her favorite diva isn't easy, although she says she knows which diva has the best voice.
"The best voice in the business is Celine Dion," she says. "I just think she has the greatest chops, even up against Aretha."
Born Cherilyn Sarkisian, Cher has two children: gay activist Chastity Bono (with the late Sonny Bono) and musician Elijah Blue Allman (with rocker Gregg Allman).
She also has an Oscar, which she won in 1987 for her leading role in Moonstruck.
