Chad Ochocinco treats 200 fans to dinner
(CBS News) Chad Ochocinco wanted to get dinner with some of his fans on Monday night - and he even picked up the tab.
The New England Patriots wide receiver sent out an invitation on Twitter offering to treat 200 people to a meal at Sylvia's Restaurant in Harlem.
"Dinner in NY tonight --> 1st 200 people at Sylvia's Restaurant by 7 pm in Harlem," he wrote. "Leave ya money/credit cards at home. I got you this time."
Tren'ness Woods-Black, who handles the restaurant's communications (her grandmother is Sylvia Woods, the spot's namesake), told New York magazine that Ochocinco called the restaurant Monday afternoon to let them know he was coming to New York and asked how many people he could host for dinner. She told him 200, and people started lining up minutes after he sent the tweet.
"We served our most popular items," Woods-Black added. "Barbeque ribs, fried chicken, mac and cheese, corn bread, iced tea, cocktails." Red velvet cupcakes from Cake Man Raven Confectionery were brought in for dessert.
Ochocinco seemed pleased with the evening's outcome. "Now I've 200 new friends, even better 200 new friends have my phone number," he tweeted. "Now that s--- is #Epic or #Crazy." (On Tuesday morning, he added that only 13 of those new friends had texted him.)
The NFL player is engaged to "Basketball Wives" star Evelyn Lozada. It was announced Monday that the couple will star in an eight-part reality series called "Ev and Ocho," culminating in a two-part finale with their wedding. The show will air on VH1 beginning in September.
