(CBS) - The attorney for Casey Anthony's parents, Mark Lippman, appeared on NBC's Today Show this morning after Cindy Anthony, Casey's mother, claimed in court Thursday that she was the one who searched the term "chloroform" on the family computer, a report says.

Cindy Anthony dropped the bombshell Thursday afternoon when she was called to the witness stand by the defense. The prosecution, who believes Casey Anthony killed her 2-year-old daughter Caylee with duct tape, had previously accused Casey Anthony of making the searches.

Lippman explained to Today Show host Ann Curry that her statement should not have come as a shock to the prosecutors.

"It's not like the prosecution didn't know about the search. They can't say that's just new evidence that was presented yesterday," Lippman said, reports the Orlando Sentinel. "It's certainly something both parties had access to and it was used by the defense yesterday.

In the deposition taken on July 28, 2009 with state prosecutor Linda Drane Burdick, Cindy Anthony said that she searched for "chlorophil" [sic] and may have searched the term "chloroform," but not "how to make chloroform" on the family computer, reports the Sentinel.

On the show Lippman was also asked whether or not George and Cindy Anthony believe their daughter is innocent.

"They don't know whether or not she's innocent based on the crimes that have been charged...they want to find out what the truth is no matter how difficult it gets or how easy it might become," Lippman told Curry, reports the paper.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Lippman said on CNN's "AC 360" that his clients believed that their daughter was not innocent. On Thursday he issued a statement trying to clarify his remarks stating that his words were misconstrued.

The Casey Anthony case was recently reported on by "48 Hours Mystery."
