Carole King is the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year
Carole King will be honored as the 2014 MusiCares Person of the Year on Jan. 24, 2014, as part of a star-studded gala and concert in Los Angeles.
The event, which will take place two nights before the Grammy Awards, benefits the MusiCares Foundation, which gives musicians a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.
A slew of artists have been tapped to perform for King, including the Dixie Chicks, Lady Gaga, Bette Midler, Jason Mraz, James Taylor and Steven Tyler. More performers will be announced in the coming months.
The 71-year-old singer-songwriter is being honored for her charitable work, including her involvement with environmental organizations, as well as her contributions to the music industry.
At 17, King wrote her first No. 1 hit -- "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," which was performed by the Shirelles. Her songwriting hits continued with "Run To Him," "Crying In The Rain," "Up on the Roof," "You've Got A Friend," "I'm Into Something Good," "It's Too Late" and "So Far Away."
Last year, King published her memoir, "A Natural Woman," and in May she became the first woman to receive the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, presented by the Library of Congress. King's story is hitting the stage, soon with the upcoming Broadway musical, "Beautiful - the Carole King Musical."
Bruce Springsteen was last year's Musicares Person of the Year. Previous honorees have included Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand.
