Carlina White Update: Ann Pettway indicted for kidnapping NYC newborn in 1987
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Ann Pettway, the North Carolina woman accused of snatching a newborn from a New York hospital more than two decades ago, has been indicted on a kidnapping charge.
The indictment against Pettway was returned by a federal grand jury in Manhattan on Thursday in the case of Carlina White. Pettway has been held without bail since her January arrest on charges that she kidnapped White from Harlem Hospital in August 1987. White is now 23 years old.
Pettway will enter a plea to the indictment at a hearing on Thursday, Feb. 24.
The FBI has said in court papers that the Raleigh, N.C., woman took the baby after her own efforts at childbearing failed.
