California father arrested in accidental shooting of son, 7

ADELANTO, Calif. -Police announced the arrest of a California father Friday who they say accidentally shot and killed his 7-year-old son in San Bernardino County, reports CBS Los Angeles.

Police responded around 5 p.m. Thursday to a home about 40 miles north of San Bernardino on the report of the child's accidental shooting. The child, Daniel Cervantes, was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The station reports that sheriff's officials originally believed the child accidentally shot himself. But further investigation led to the arrest of his father, Julio Cervantes Sr., on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, police said.
