California family holds home intruder at gunpoint
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. --A California family says it barricaded itself in a bedroom while a home invader tried to get in, then cornered the man and held him at gunpoint until police came, reports CBS Sacramento.
Audra Humphrey described the panic she felt when she realized a stranger had entered her home.
"I don't know what his intentions were, I was so worried about my family," Humphrey said.
She said she had left her dog out the back door and briefly left it open while going to get a sweater, but when she returned realized "something wasn't right."
"The dog was barking so differently and was making weird noise," Humphrey said. Then the man bolted inside her house.
"That's when I yelled for my husband, and we barricaded the door" to a bedroom, she said.
Brandon Humphrey said they soon scared the intruder off.
"I yelled at him and told him to leave and that I was armed," Brandon Humphrey said.
He then did a sweep of the home, and when he walked into the backyard he found the intruder hiding.
"I saw him crouched in the bushes, and I told him to face down and not to move until the police got here," Brandon Humphrey said. They called 911 and a nearby police officer immediately responded and arrested the suspect.
West Sacramento Police did not release the suspect's name, but said he is undergoing a mental health evaluation. He will then be booked into the Yolo County Jail.
