Calif. mom Ka Yang accused of killing baby in microwave

(CBS/KOVR/AP) SACRAMENTO - Sacramento police have arrested mother Ka Yang after an investigation found her baby likely died from burns suffered in a microwave oven.

On March 17, emergency crews responded to 29-year-old Yang's home and her 6-week-old daughter Mirabel dead, reports CBS station KOVR.

Yang told investigators she was holding her daughter while sitting at her computer desk when she suffered a seizure and blacked out. When Yang woke up Mirabel wasn't breathing, the station reports.

The Sacramento Coroner determined Mirabele died from burns, but could not determine how she got them. The arrest warrant shows investigators were initially suspicious because there was no damage to the space heater. The baby's clothes were not burned and her hair did not appear to be burned or singed although she suffered serious burns to her face. Police found a pacifier for Mirabele, inside the kitchen microwave, reports the station.

After a three-month investigation that included consulting with several medical professionals, forensic specialists, and government agencies, it was determined Mirabelle died as a result of being burned in a microwave oven, according to the station.

"Even when people hear the story they don't believe it," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Norm Leong, reports the station. "The injuries aren't seen that often. In fact, we couldn't find three other cases in the nation that had injuries caused by a microwave.

The arrest warrant also showed Yang's polygraph test found that she was deceptive. She told investigators she might have a split personality.

Yang's other three children have been ordered into the custody of her grandparents.

Yang is now facing multiple murder charges.
