(CBS/AP) SAN FRANCISCO - A San Francisco couple is charged with murder for allegedly killing a man prosecutors say was pimping their teenage daughter.

Police said when Barry Gilton and his girlfriend Lupe Mercado found out their 17-year-old daughter might be a working prostitute for Calvin Sneed, they searched across California the state for their child.

Sneed, 22, was shot and killed in San Francisco on June 4. Police believe Gilton was the shooter.

Authorities believe the couple is also behind a shooting a week earlier when Sneed was wounded in his car in North Hollywood.

The San Francisco Chronicle says Gilton and Mercado appeared in court Wednesday on murder and other charges. Both are being held on $2 million bail.
