Caine: Like Father, Like Son

With a career that has lasted more than 50 years, Sir Michael Caine is a two-time Academy Award winner, who has appeared in more than 100 films. In his latest movie, "Austin Powers In Goldmember" he plays Nigel Powers, the distant father of everyone's favorite shagadelic spy. Caine visits The Early Show to talk about his role and the film.

Fast Facts About Michael Caine:

• Born Maurice Joseph Micklewhite, Jr. on March 14, 1933, in an impoverished part of London. His dad was a fish porter and his mother a charwoman. He was evacuated to the countryside during World War II.
• After trying several jobs and a military stint during the Korean War, Caine got a job as an assistant stage manager at a repertory company. He fell in love with acting and changed his last name from "Micklewhite" to "Caine" in honor of one of his favorite movies, The Caine Mutiny (1954). In 1956, made his film acting debut in a bit part in "Hell in Korea."
• He got unbilled film parts and TV walk-ons until 1963, when he was cast in a leading role in the epic adventure film "Zulu." He continued to score more roles and won his biggest break into the mainstream in the lead role of Alfie in the US film "Gambit" (1966). He was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe award.
• Films through the '70s include "The Italian Job," "Sleuth" (Best Actor Academy Award nomination), "The Man Who Would Be King," and "California Suite."
• His '80s work features "Dressed To Kill," "Educating Rita" (Best Actor Oscar nomination), "Hannah and Her Sisters" (Best Supporting Actor Academy Award), "Mona Lisa" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," with Steve Martin.
• In 1993, was awarded CBE (Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British Empire). Still, his career took some bumpy turns in the '90s with choices like "Death Becomes Her" and "Blood and Wine," but he was back on top of his game in the later part of the decade with "Little Voice" and "The Cider House Rules" and "Miss Congeniality."
• When he won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 2000 for "The Cider House Rules", Caine became only the second British male to have won two Academy
  Awards. (The first was Peter Ustinov.)
• In June 2000, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
• He is the co-owner of a successful London restaurant, Langan's Brasserie and owns his own film production company.
• Caine has written six books on acting and his autobiography "What's It All About?" (1992)
• He is married to Shakira Baksh (Jan. 8, 1973). She is an actor, jewelry designer, model and co-founder of the Indian restaurant chain Planet Pappadum. She was Miss Guyana 1967. They have a daughter, Natasha, born in July 1973. Cain has another daughter, Dominique, born in 1956 to Patricia Haines.
