Buzz Briefs: Ex-Miss Nevada, Lohan

Ex-Miss Nevada USA Has A Run In With The Law

A former beauty queen who was stripped of her crown last year has been jailed on traffic offenses and a resisting a police officer charge, police said.

Katherine N. "Katie" Rees, 23, a former Miss Nevada USA, was being held at the Clark County jail pending a court appearance Friday on six misdemeanor charges.

Police say she was stopped while driving about 3 a.m. Wednesday and became physically aggressive toward a Las Vegas police officer.

No injuries were reported, and Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell said Wednesday it was unclear if Rees had a lawyer.

Rees was charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with suspended license plates, failure to produce proof of insurance and resisting a police officer, police said.

Pageant co-owner Donald Trump denied Rees' appeal for reinstatement a year ago, after provocative photos showing her partying appeared on the Internet.

Lindsay Lohan Reflects On Tumultuous Past

2"When I look back on this last year, it's like, 'what was I thinking?'" the 21-year-old actress says in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar magazine, on newsstands Feb. 19.

Lohan was arrested twice last year on DUI charges and pleaded guilty in August to misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges. She served 84 minutes in jail as part of a plea deal, and checked into a rehab center in Utah.

"I've learned so much, though, like learning to live my life a different way ... and I wasn't taking the time to feel my feelings," she says. "Being away and going to a place where I could learn about that and take the time with a clear mind to get back on the right track was nice."

The "Mean Girls" star - who was shown on a video taking a swig from a champagne bottle while ringing in the New Year in Capri, Italy - says it's hard to resist the urge to party.

"I have it in me to go, go, go," Lohan says. "I'm still young. I love life. I love music and being around that. I love people, and I'm a very social person. But I also love being home, quiet and normal."

JLo's Father Says She's Having Twins

3Jennifer Lopez hasn't formally announced how many babies she's expecting, but her father says he's getting a double dose of grandkids.

"It's twins. My sister also has twins. It runs in the family," David Lopez told Telefutra's "EscandaloTV" in Spanish during an interview at JLo's California restaurant Madre.

He also said that he's "super proud" of his famous daughter. "Being a mother is something she's wanted for many years," he added.

Lopez and her husband Marc Anthony announced the pregnancy on Nov. 8 in Miami.

Amy Winehouse Quizzed Over "Drug" Video

4British singer Amy Winehouse has been questioned about a video that allegedly showed her smoking crack cocaine, police said Wednesday.

No charges were filed and an investigation is continuing, police said.

Last month, The Sun tabloid ran still images from a video that showed the jazz-pop diva inhaling fumes from a small pipe. The images were said to have been filmed during a party at Winehouse's London home.

Winehouse who shot to fame with the autobiographical single "Rehab" has since been admitted to a London rehabilitation center.

On Wednesday, London's Metropolitan Police said detectives interview a 24-year-old woman the previous day over allegations of drug possession. It is policy not to name suspects who have not been charged but an officer read out the statement in response to a request for information about Winehouse.

The singer and her acclaimed "Back to Black" album are nominated in six categories for Sunday's Grammy Awards, but her spokesman said no decision had been made about whether she would attend the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Winehouse's potent blend of blues, jazz, pop and soul has won praise from critics and fans, but the singer has become as famous for her chaotic personal life as for her music. Since the album's U.S. release last year, she has canceled a slew of appearances amid reports of drug use.

Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is in jail awaiting trial on charges of assault and lying to police.

Letterman Gives "Shirtless" McConaughey A Hard Time

5"Fool's Gold" star and heartthrob Matthew McConaughey appeared on the "Late Show with David Letterman" yesterday.

Letterman made the actor blush when he asked him why he is always shirtless.
"We see you a lot with your shirt off," Letterman said. "Is it a thing all your life growing up, for fun?"

Letterman showed McConaughey shirtless on a driver's license, on the moon and in the delivery room, which made the audience roar with laughter.

The 38-year old is expecting a baby with Brazilian born model Camila Alves.

Will Ferrell: "Too Lazy" For TV news, So He Did Comedy Instead

Comic actor Will Ferrell, the ex-Saturday Night Live cast member with two dozen movie roles since 1997, says he dipped a toe in the TV news business but decided it was too much work.

"I had started working in local cable TV a little bit after college and then realized I was really ultimately too lazy to go get the big story and the big interview," Ferrell said. "I realized I wanted to be Chevy Chase doing the fake news, as opposed to a real anchor. So then I found my way into comedy."

Ferrell, who is promoting his basketball-themed comedy "Semi-Pro" that opens Feb. 29, said he didn't set out to make three sports movies in as many years.

He starred in 2006's auto racing movie "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" and last year's skating movie "Blades of Steel."

"I'm going to try to cover all ... major sports in many different countries," he joked.

"It's kind of a funny coincidence, that I had these three sports movies. It just kind of happened," Ferrell told Detroit's WXYZ-TV. "I love 'em, sports comedies. ... It's two of the things I love most."

"Semi-Pro" features Ferrell as owner of a struggling Flint, Mich., team that is in danger of folding as its minor league is gobbled up by the National Basketball Association.

Ferrell said the frenetic pace of his movie work and 15 acting credits since 2004 may slow a bit so he can see more of his sons, ages 1 and 3.

"Once you have kids, you don't want to be away from home too much," he said. "My oldest son is just starting to miss me a little."

De Mornay's Attorney Enters No Contest Plea To DUI Charge

Rebecca De Mornay must serve three years probation after a no contest plea was entered Tuesday on her behalf to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge H. Chester Horn also ordered the 48-year-old actress to complete a three-month program for DUI offenders and pay $350 plus unspecified penalties.

Defense attorney Blair Berk entered the plea on the behalf of De Mornay, who wasn't in the courtroom for the brief hearing. A second DUI charge was dismissed as a result of the plea, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman with the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

De Mornay was arrested Oct. 30 for a traffic violation in Beverly Hills when officers smelled alcohol on her breath.

De Mornay is best known for playing the prostitute who befriends Tom Cruise's high school student in the 1983 film "Risky Business." She also starred in the HBO surf drama "John From Cincinnati" and the films "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle," "Lords of Dogtown" and "American Venus."

L.A. Judge Wants Rod Stewart's Son, Couple To Settle Lawsuit

A judge ordered Rod Stewart's son and a couple who sued him for assault to try and settle the litigation in a conference.

Superior Court Judge William F. Highberger said Tuesday he will oversee the settlement hearing next Monday.

Sean Stewart is accused of attacking Tobalus and Ericka Stein at an April 2007 party in the Hollywood Hills. The couple filed their lawsuit in May against Stewart, claiming assault, battery, and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

The couple claim Stewart and others riding in a Rolls-Royce Phantom confronted them, then began punching and throwing bricks at them and their vehicle outside the party.

The lawsuit does not state a motive for the alleged assault.

Stewart also was sued in July by Daniel Refoua, who alleged assault, battery, false imprisonment, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Refoua also has named Stewart's 62-year-old father Rod Stewart and James "Country" Davis as defendants. Davis is identified in the court papers as an employee of Rod Stewart.

Refoua's suit claims that Stewart and others confronted him at LAX nightclub in January 2006, and "attacked, assaulted, battered, punched, beat, hit, struck, tortured and imprisoned" Refoua, who suffered a fractured nose and related injuries.

New Network Bodes Well For Updated Miss America Pageants

A newly updated Miss America Pageant saw an increase in viewers on its new cable channel this year.

More than 3.6 million people watched the pageant's Jan. 26 live airing on Discovery Channel-owned TLC, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That's a roughly 50 percent increase over last year, when the crowning aired on the Country Music Channel.

TLC touted a new look for Miss America this year and promoted the crowning with a four-part reality series dubbed "Miss America: Reality Check." The series gave the contestants makeovers and coached them to shed the stuffy, dated look of pageants past.

Miss Michigan Kirsten Haglund won the title.

The uptick in viewers is the most for the pageant since it was dropped from network television in 2004.

Still, it's a long way from the 87-year-old beauty contest's heyday.

Nielsen data shows 33 million people watched Miss Minnesota Gretchen Carlson be crowned Miss America in 1988, the most viewers for the pageant ever recorded.
