Buzz Briefs: Eva Mendes, Owen Wilson
Eva Mendes Says No To Chinchilla
The actress has signed on to be the newest face - and body - of PETA's "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.
The "We Own the Night" star joins Alicia Silverstone, Christina Applegate, Christy Turlington and Pamela Anderson, who have taken it all off for the animal-rights group.
US Weekly reported that in a Q&A with PETA, the actress said she hasn't worn fur since her very first movie premiere, when her stylist sent her a fur wrap for the evening and Mendes "ignorantly wore it."
According to Mendes, PETA wrote her a "beautiful letter to comment on my less-than-educated choice. I was so impressed that I vowed to them and myself to never wear real fur ... again. Personally, I think wearing a baby chinchilla says, 'I'm ignorant,' [not] 'I'm badass.'"
Woody Harrelson, Owen Wilson Are Low Maintenance In Peru
2A cheap hotel and a bath in an irrigation ditch - not the usual travel arrangements for Hollywood celebrities.
But Woody Harrelson and Owen Wilson were apparently out to show the locals in Peru that they aren't your average high-maintenance movie stars.
Local celebrity gossip program "Magaly TeVe" aired video Wednesday night of the two actors deep in Peru's Andes bathing in an irrigation ditch wearing nothing but their boxer shorts. It showed the pair pouring handfuls of water over themselves under the highland sun.
Harrelson and Wilson were reportedly visiting a local orphanage they support near Cuzco, the ancient Incan capital.
They dodged reporters at Lima's Jorge Chavez International Airport on their way to a hotel that cost less than $50 a night, "Magaly TeVe" said. They flew to Cuzco Wednesday morning.
Wilson and Harrelson are the latest celebrities to visit the region, rich in archaeological ruins.
Cameron Diaz, Olivia Newton-John and Microsoft Corp. chairman Bill Gates meandered through Cuzco's centuries-old cobblestone streets earlier this year.
Posh Spice: You Have To Sleep Naked If You're With Becks
3Victoria Beckham goes to bed naked. And she's got a very good reason - her husband.
"You don't sleep with David Beckham," the 33-year-old Posh Spice tells Elle magazine in its January issue, on newsstands Tuesday. "I'm going to be naked if I'm getting in bed with him every night!"
The Beckhams and their three young sons moved to Los Angeles this summer when her soccer-superstar husband signed to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
"I'm very proud to be British, but here it's a lot more relaxed," she says. "It's the happiest as a family that we've ever been. I just love America."
She is now on tour with the newly reunited Spice Girls.
"I wanted my children to see that Mummy was a pop star," she says. "It was the last opportunity for them to stand in a crowd full of people screaming for the Spice Girls."
Beckham says she was never a "natural."
"It became very obvious from the start that I was never going to be the best singer or the best dancer or the best actress," she says. "You know, I've never been that good at anything, to be completely honest."
Still, she's a natural when it comes to keeping herself in the media spotlight, from her cutting-edge haircut to her high-profile marriage.
"I'm so camp! I'm such a gay man trying to get out," she says. "I don't give a (bleep) what anybody thinks."
Not All Things Turn Out Rosy For "Idol" Stars
4Jessica Sierra has pleaded not guilty to charges in a weekend fracas with three Tampa police officers outside a nightclub.
Sierra, a former "American Idol" finalist, is charged with disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest and violating conditions of her parole on earlier felony battery and possession charges.
Attorney John Fitzgibbons said Thursday he is consulting with doctors to plan a comprehensive drug and alcohol program for Sierra.
She is being held without bail and will remain in jail at least until her next hearing, scheduled Dec. 20.
Sierra was a finalist on "American Idol" in 2005. She entered a California rehab facility in July that was to be documented on VH1's reality show "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew" next year.
Ryan Philippe And Abbie Cornish Get Into The Christmas Spirit
5On Dec. 2, US Weekly reported that Ryan Phillipe and actress Abbie Cornish, who are back on again, took Phillipe's children Ava, 8, and Deacon, 4, shopping for Christmas décor in L.A.
"Ava seemed very comfortable with Abbie," says a witness. "Ava picked a wreath and Abbie put it around her head as a joke. They were both laughing."
The anonymous source said "Abbie is a free spirit. She indulges a side of Ryan that he's kept under wraps for years."
Judge OKs Suit Against Vanessa Hudgens
A lawyer who claims "High School Musical" lead Vanessa Hudgens owes him $150,000 in legal fees can proceed with his lawsuit against the teen star, a judge ruled Wednesday.
Superior Court Judge Tricia Ann Bigelow said she or a jury should decide whether the actress acted within a reasonable period of time when she waited two years to repudiate a contract she signed when she was 16.
Attorney Brian Schall filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit in September that said Hudgens agreed in October 2005 to pay him 5 percent of her earnings in exchange for his legal representation. He claims he helped Hudgens earn more than $5 million.
Hudgens disavowed the agreement on Oct. 9. She turns 19 later this month.
Her attorney argued that state law provides that a contract with a minor can be voided before the person turns 18 or "within a reasonable time afterward."
Hayes F. Michel, an attorney for Schall, argued in court papers that Hudgens claims "she was too young and innocent to be bound by a legal contract ... and was preyed upon by the very lawyer who helped her make enough money to pay her current lawyers."
The next hearing in the case was scheduled for Jan. 15.
Baby Spice Might Join Posh And Scary In L.A.Photos: "High School Musical" Celebrated
The Spice Girls performed in front of a sold-out crowd at the Staples Center in Los Angeles Wednesday night. It was their first show in L.A. since two of the '90s British-pop quintet's members moved to the West Coast permanently.
"I love it here," explained Victoria Beckham (aka "Posh Spice"), who relocated from Spain this past summer with soccer-superstar husband David Beckham and their three sons.
Melanie Brown ("Scary Spice") moved to Los Angeles in 2003. Other band members said they've grown accustomed to the L.A. lifestyle.
"We've all been here, staying here for quite a while," added "Baby Spice," Emma Bunton. "We've all fallen in love with it, as well. You might have a few more Spice Girls moving here."
The band also confirmed reports that David Beckham purchased each member a diamond bracelet to celebrate the start of the tour.
"Oh, it was from a little store called Octopussy," said Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty Spice"), showing off her Beckham bling.
Added Victoria Beckham: "My husband, when he married me, married all the Spice Girls, and he has to look after us all."
Jack Bower Goes to Jail
The star of the Fox TV drama "24" will have a new number to become acquainted with: 48.
That's how many days Kiefer Sutherland will spend in a Glendale, Calif., jail.
He was given the sentence for racking up a second drunken-driving arrest in three years. Sutherland had the option to put off his sentence until mid-February, but decided to get his time served immediately.
Under the terms of his plea, the prosecutor in the case says the Emmy-winner must serve five years of probation, pay a $510 fine, enroll in an 18-month alcohol-education class and attend weekly alcohol-therapy sessions for six months.
He must serve all 48 days of his sentence and police say he'll spend that time working, either in the laundry room or kitchen.
Vivica A. Fox Booked On DUI ChargePhotos: Celebrity Mug Shots
Actress and former "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Vivica A. Fox has been booked on a drunken driving charge that could subject her to a $1,000 fine and a jail term as long as six months.
Fox, 43, walked into a Northridge, Calif., police station Wednesday and was fingerprinted and photographed, officer Ana Aguirre said. The booking process took less than 25 minutes and Fox was released without bail, she said.
Fox was ordered by a judge on Monday to turn herself in or face a warrant for her arrest.
Fox was stopped in the San Fernando Valley on March 20, 2007, by California Highway Patrol officers who said her 2007 Cadillac Escalade was doing 80 mph and weaving on the Ventura Freeway.
During her arrest, the black actress accused one officer of being a "racist white cop," according to a CHP report.
In September, Fox pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol level over the legal limit of .08.
Mel Gibson Looks For Business Opportunities In Costa Rica
Mel Gibson met with several Costa Rican government ministers to discuss setting up a film production company in the Central American country.
The 51-year-old actor/director met Tuesday with the ministers of commerce, tourism and economy at an exclusive hotel in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose.
"I'm here exploring opportunities to establish my film business in Costa Rica," Gibson told Channel 13 on Wednesday.
Gibson, star of Hollywood blockbusters such as the "Lethal Weapon" series and director of last year's Mayan epic "Apocalypto," said he is considering Costa Rica because "it's a beautiful country, very stable."
"I like its people a lot and they have very good coffee."
Gibson already owns a house in Guanacaste on the country's Pacific coast.
In July, he met with Costa Rican President Oscar Arias to discuss making a financial donation to the nation's Indians.
