Bundling Up Baby's First Christmas

Your baby's first Christmas is a big milestone for both you and your child. The folks at Babytalk magazine have come up with some great suggestions for celebrating and surviving the holiday season.

Christina Vercelletto, an editor at the magazine, shares a few on The Saturday Early Show.

FASHION

Bright colors really help when you're taking holiday photos. All clothing listed here is available in sizes 6 to 12 months.

  • Gold satin Asian-print dress, $15, H&M
  • Red wool zip-up sweater, $35, Tommy Hilfiger; blue corduroy pants, $25, and onesie, $13, BabyGap.
  • Red satin dress with black velvet ribbon trim, $19.50, Children's Place

    CAMERAS

A camera doesn't need to be very pricey, it just has to take reliable shots. The key here is to get one you're comfortable with so you'll always bring it with you — babies do the cutest things at any moment of the day.

  • The 3-in-1 DC-141C 1.3MP Mini Digital Camera from Radio Shack ($30) is lightweight with changeable face plates. It's perfect for moms to wear around their necks so that they're always ready to catch a smile.
  • Parents won't miss the shot with the Kodak Easyshare LS753; it's always in capture mode, ready to go. ($300; www.kodak.com)

    ORNAMENTS

Everyone from Waterford to Hallmark releases a series of special commemorative ornaments each year. Of course, you can always make your own: Press baby's foot into nontoxic modeling compound and poke a hole. Once it's dry, write the date and name, and loop a ribbon through the hole and hang it on your tree.

But if you'd rather let someone else do the work, Warm Biscuit Bedding offers a wide assortment of customized personalized hand-painted ornaments for $32 each.

    Then there are these:

  • Marquis by Waterford "2005 Baby's First Christmas" Baby Bottle Ornament, $25
  • Lenox 2005 Baby's First Christmas Rudolph, $15
  • Lenox 2005 Baby's First Christmas Rocking Horse, $20
  • Assortment of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments, including baby's first Christmas photo holder, $13; baby's first Christmas handcrafted metal photo album ornament, $19, and baby's first Christmas swan ornament, $10

    BEYOND ORNAMENTS

Babies need stockings to hang by the fireplace. Warm Biscuit Bedding offers vintage print stockings in three different fabrics that can be personalized for $48 each.

Pick out a special frame to display your picture of baby's first visit to Santa Claus. A good source for frames is the Pottery Barn Web site, which offers silver-plated frames with red grosgrain matting that also may be engraved.
