(CBS) Brooke Mueller has checked into rehab, less than two weeks after being arrested on drug and assault charges.

A rep for Charlie Sheen's ex-wife said she has entered long-term, in-patient treatment at an undisclosed facility.

"After further reflection and consideration, Brooke has decided to remove herself from the media spotlight and has entered a long-term in-patient treatment center where she can focus on her recovery without distraction," the rep, Steve Honig, told TMZ on Tuesday. "She has already arrived at the facility and, out of respect for her privacy, no further information will be released about her treatment. Brooke's goal is to maintain her sobriety and she believes this is the best option to reach that goal."

Mueller was arrested Dec. 3 in Aspen, Colo., on suspicion of third-degree assault and cocaine possession with intent to distribute. She returned to Los Angeles after being released on $11,000 bond. The next court date is scheduled for Dec. 19.

Sheen and Mueller divorced earlier this year, citing Christmas Day 2009 as the day of their breakup. Charlie Sheen was arrested in Aspen on that day on suspicion of assaulting Mueller. He completed his probation in that case last November.

They have 2-year-old twin sons, Bob and Max. Honig said that Mueller will retain custody of the boys.

"Brooke will retain custody of the children, who will remain in their home and familiar surroundings and be under the care of their longtime nanny," he told TMZ. "Charlie and Brooke's parents fully support her decision and everyone recognizes the importance of maintaining the children's normal routine."
