Broadway shows going dark for Election Day
New York City visitors hoping to take their minds off Election Day by taking in a show are going to be a bit out of luck -- as the list of choices for a Broadway shows open Tuesday will be drastically reduced.
Most of the productions currently running on Broadway won’t be putting on performances Tuesday, instead staying closed for business in honor of Election Day.
The Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall will also be closed.
The list of Broadway productions that will not run Tuesday include “The Color Purple,” “Cats,” “Kinky Boots,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “School of Rock,” “Waitress,” “Oh, Hello on Broadway,” “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” “Chicago,” “The Encounter,” “The Front Page,” “Cirque du Soleil’s Paramour,” “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” and “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812,” among others.
Not all shows will be dark, however. For instance, the Tony-winning “Hamilton” will go on as usual on Tuesday.
