Southern California wildfire prompts evacuations
VICTORVILLE, Calif. -- A Southern California desert wildfire has burned an outbuilding and prompted evacuation of a handful of homes east of Los Angeles.
The San Bernardino County Fire Department says the fire began around noon Tuesday in a riverbed in the unincorporated Spring Valley Lake community near Victorville.
It quickly grew to 60 acres.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Bachman says some homes on Riverside Drive have been ordered evacuated.
The fire began in the area of Mojave Narrows Regional Park but moderate winds are pushing the flames toward some ranches and large homes.
Some horses and other animals have been evacuated.
The Daily Press of Victorville says the fire is 40 percent contained. Crews are fighting the blaze by ground and air.
