Britney Spears turns 30
(CBS) Britney Spears turns 30 today, Friday, Dec. 2. It seems like just yesterday the then-budding pop star donned a sexy school girl outfit in the 1999 "...Baby One More Time" video. We watched the former Mousketeer grow up before our very eyes, and to mark the special occasion, let's take a look at how Spears captivated our attention throughout her, shall we say, very up and down 20s.
There was her marriage and divorce to Kevin Federline, and the two kids that came along with it. And how could anyone forget her other shot at tying the knot with the quickie 55-hour Las Vegas marriage to high school sweetheart Jason Alexander?
Spears also had her fair share of parenting troubles with her two sons, Jayden James and Sean Preston. Between visits from child services and custody battles, motherhood hasn't always been smooth sailing for Spears. Jaws dropped when she drove around Los Angeles with her child on her lap. The singer's multiple trips to rehab and finance issues wreaked havoc on the young star, leaving Papa Spears to take over financial dealings with a conservatorship.
And then there was the head shaving incident. Need we say more?
Still, Spears' 20s had many bright spots. Her infamous kiss with Madonna, for one, cemented Spears' place in pop culture. In 2003, she got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
But fans almost gave up on the pop tart after her disastrous performance of "Gimme More" at the MTV Video Music Award in 2007.
Then something happened. After years of wondering just when she would get herself out of her self-made mess, Spears launched a long-awaited comeback. She made a delightful guest appearance on CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" in 2008. That same year, her "Circus" album debuted at No. 1 in the United States and she went on tour around the world. "Glee" paid tribute to the Louisiana native in a 2010 episode that also featured a guest appearance by Spears.
She notched another No. 1 this year with her seventh album, "Femme Fatale." MTV Video Music Awards moonmen soon followed.
Spears' personal life appears to be back on track too. She's been dating her former agent Jason Trawick since 2010, and the pair could be eyeing an engagement. Sources tell People that Trawick may pop the question soon.
