Britney Explains Umbrella Attack

Apparently there's method to her madness — method acting, that is.

Britney Spears has written a message on her official Web site in which she explains and apologizes for an incident four months ago when she was caught on camera hitting a car with an umbrella in a fit of rage.

The Web site x17 shot the video of Spears hitting a car with an umbrella in February after the singer notoriously shaved her head at a Tarzana, Calif., beauty parlor. It was splashed all over the tabloids.

"I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done four months ago regarding an umbrella," Spears writes on her Web site. "I was preparing my character for a roll in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally."

"I take all my rolls very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn't get the part," she says.

Spears has a few acting roles on her resume. In 2002, she made her feature debut in "Crossroads." She also played a character named Amber-Louise on the NBC series "Will & Grace" last year.
