Bring Your Hotel Home

Love your hotel room?

Chances are you may now be able to buy almost anything in it.

Hotels, both large and small, are selling an array of hotel merchandise for the home — everything from beds to bathtubs — made available through in-room catalogs, online stores, boutiques or by phone to guests and non-guests alike.

Travel + Leisure magazine Deputy Editor Laura Begley discussed the trend on The Early Show Wednesday.

Experts say the trend stems from hotels promoting the resort lifestyle for homes. More and more guests want to bring that part of their experience home.

Adding to the appeal: Hotels often buy things that are luxurious and exclusive to them, as well as products that generally last longer and are cheaper than similar goods in regular stores.

For hotels, selling their own merchandise seems to be a win-win situation, not only bringing in additional revenue, but giving them free brand advertising.

It's a trend that has also extended to retailers, who are now selling all sorts of hotel-inspired goods in stores across the country.
