Brexit advocate Nigel Farage will attend Donald Trump's inauguration
President-elect Donald Trump has described his victory as “Brexit plus-plus-plus,” a reference to the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union -- and now he’ll have the original face of the Brexit campaign in the audience on Inauguration Day.
Nigel Farage, head of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), which led the charge for the “Leave” campaign in last June’s vote, will attend Mr. Trump’s inauguration later this month.
He will be a guest of Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, Farage told Sky News, adding that he “can’t wait” for the ceremony.
“The governor of Mississippi has invited me and I’m there for a few days and it’s going to be a great, historic event,” he said. “In America they’ve had a political revolution and it’s complete; the problem in Britain is our revolution is not complete because the same people are still in charge.”
Farage and Mr. Trump’s relationship goes back to the campaign: Farage attended the Republican convention in Cleveland last July, and campaigned with Mr. Trump in Mississippi earlier this fall. When Mr. Trump won, he met in person with Farage even before meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Mr. Trump has even floated Farage as a British ambassador to the U.S., saying in a November tweet that Farage would do a “great job” in the role and that “many people” would like to see him appointed to the job. However, May’s office in London replied: “There is no vacancy.”
