Brad Barker, Texas man, put 3-year-old girl in scalding water for telling lies, police say

(CBS/AP) FREEPORT, Texas-- Brad Barker, a South Texas man,  allegedly scalded his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter for lying. Barker and his girlfriend, Mandy Milstead, were arrested on Tuesday on charges of injury to a child after the two reportedly withheld medical aid from the victim for nearly a week after she was burned.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said they believe Barker placed the girl in scalding water as a punishment for not telling the truth on May 24. Milstead allegedly waited until June 1 to take her daughter to a Galveston hospital.

The 3-year-old remains in the intensive care unit with severe burns from the waist down.

Barker's bond was set at $500,000 and Milstead's at $150,000. No attorneys have been listed for the suspects.
