Boy Meets Groundhog
(CBS/AP) Many parents will say they will go to the ends of the earth for their children. But what about to Punxsutawney, Pa.?
That's just what one set of parents did for their special needs child this weekend.
Eleven-year-old Mark Russo, of Trumbull, Conn., traveled to the town, known for its annual Groundhog Day celebration, on Saturday to meet his hero: the groundhog known as Punxsutawney Phil. Russo, who has a rare developmental disorder called Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, has had a fascination with all things Groundhog Day for the past two years.
Michele and David Russo, his parents, say he reads a lot and surfs the Internet to research subjects that fascinate him.
Russo's family says the boy wakes up each morning and hoists one of his pet rabbits into the air to re-enact the Groundhog Day celebrations he's seen online, while listening to the "Pennsylvania Polka."
