Bold prints, bright colors highlight Milly collection
NEW YORK (CBS) Backstage at the tents at Lincoln Center resembled a zoo more than a venue for pret-a-porter show Thursday, when Michelle Smith debuted her Spring/Summer 2012 collection.
The busy mom is also the talented designer behind the trendy luxury brand Milly, a favorite with contemporary, urban women everywhere. Known for its sophisticated blend of bold color, quality fabrics and couture techniques, the collection delivered exactly what Smith says she wants from her clothes: "wearability, quality and a sense of excitement."

Her training with prestigious designers, including Louis Vuitton and Christian Dior, has held her in good stead, providing her with all the qualifications she needed to establish Milly, now celebrating its' 10th anniversary with a flagship store on Madison Avenue and a new handbag line, as well as Milly Mini, childrenswear for budding fashionistas..
Smith said the new collection used bold geometric prints, which mixed with zig-zag patterns and linear silhouettes to create a sense of movement Shorter hemlines than she has shown in recent seasons were punctuated by the use of bright colors. Indigo, vermillion and tangerine, with bursts of yellow and metalics created a dramatic look on the runway.
Her contemporary, slightly edgy designs were accentuated by simple, pulled-back hairstyles and bright neon pink lipstick, in a new look for the season, pairing normally contradictory colors, like red and pink, together for a dramatic look.
