Body of missing Utah girl, 12, found in field
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah - The search for a missing 12-year-old Utah girl is being investigated as a homicide after police discovered the girl's body in a horse pasture.
West Valley City Police Chief Lee Russo says the girl's mother approached two officers at a convenience store near their home at around 1:30 a.m. Friday. She told officers her daughter had been missing since midnight.
Russo says the girl had left home willingly.
Police searched the area and pinged her cell phone. They were led to the field where the girl's body was discovered about four blocks from her home.
Police say there was "evidence of trauma" on the girl's body.
CBS affiliate KUTV reports Russo says investigators are processing a very large area and looking for additional clues as to what happened to the girl.
Details about possible suspects haven't yet been released.
