Bodies found in search for missing Ga. couple
TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. --Two as yet unidentified bodies and a submerged car have been discovered in the search for Georgia couple Bud and June Runion, who went missing after embarking on a road trip, reports CBS Atlanta.
A Georgia State Patrol dive team found the couple's missing SUV in a body of water, and the bodies of a man and a woman were found a short distance away, reports the station.
The couple in their 60s went missing after driving across the state to check out a classic car advertised on Craigslist. Ronnie Adrian "Jay" Towns, the man facing charges in connection with the case, turned himself in Monday morning, according to the Telfair County Sheriff's Office.
The 28-year-old faces charges of giving false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception. He hasn't been accused of harming 69-year-old Elrey "Bud" Runion and his 66-year-old wife June.
Police say Towns had the last known phone contact with them.
Bud Runion posted on January 19 that he wanted to buy a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible, according to CBS Atlanta. Police believe Towns answered that ad and said he had a car for sale.
The Runions are from Marietta, just outside Atlanta. On Thursday, they drove to McRae, about three hours away in South Georgia, to try to buy the car -- which police now believe did not exist, reports the station. Family became concerned when they couldn't get in contact with the couple.
Police said Towns likely lured the Runions to rob them of cash, according to CBS Atlanta.
"I am confident that Mr. Towns is involved,"Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson told the station.
Anyone with any information about the case is asked to call the Telfair County Sheriff's Office at (229) 868-6621 or the Cobb County Police Department at (770) 499-3945.
