Bob Saget calls Cosby scandal "despicable"
"Full House" star Bob Saget used to call Bill Cosby a mentor, but now, Saget says the disgraced comedian is "tarnished."
In an interview with HuffPost Live, a fan asked him if he believes Cosby can still be considered a contributor to the history of comedy after all of the allegations of sexual assault.
Saget responded, "I think any human being that does things that are despicable to other human beings will be slightly tarnished by history. I went to [Cosby's alma mater] Temple University, and he was a mentor of mine. ... It's very sad. I think the answer is obvious: The man has been tarnished. And it's just sad for all of the people involved."
Saget graduated from Temple in 1978; Cosby was on the board of trustees until December 2014, when he resigned amidst the scandal after dozens of women alleged that he sexually assaulted them.
Saget also said that he considered Richard Pryor a mentor, and Pryor, in turn, had been influenced by Cosby. He added, "I also had respect for Cosby because he changed stand-up comedy."
At the same time, Saget said he doesn't look at the comedian the same way anymore.
"You do find out the people you look up to, unfortunately, they're down off their throne when things like this happen," he said.
Saget will reprise his role in the Netflix reboot "Fuller House."
