Billy Zane still takes issue with the ending of "Titanic"
Almost 20 years later, Billy Zane still has some thoughts about how "Titanic" could've turned out differently.
The "Zoolander 2" actor visited the "Today" show to discuss his new mystery drama for Freeform, "Guilt," but the conversation soon turned to his most infamous role: dastardly aristocrat Cal Hockley, who was planning to marry Rose (Kate Winslet) before Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) stole her heart on the doomed voyage.
"He was misunderstood," Zane said. "I wasn't the iceberg. I did not drown 2,000 people."
The actor says he's approached daily about the film, with most fans asking either where the diamond really is or, "What was [Rose] thinking?"
"I think he found redemption by the end," Zane said. "I wish he had found her on the Carpathia [the ship that rescued the Titanic survivors] and was able to right his wrongs."
Then maybe at least they could've lived happily ever after.
