Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg star in video to promote writing computer code
Most of us know how to turn on a computer and browse the Web, but how many of us can build a website, application or computer program from scratch?
Some of the tech industry's heavyweights are starring in a promotional video for Code.org -- a non-profit organization that I dedicated to computer programming education.
Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates joined the likes of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, along with other tech luminaries to discuss the first time they wrote code.
There is a bit of obvious wooing of future programmers by showing the perks of stereotypical Silicon Valley offices, which feature quirky break rooms and free food. Of course, the overall message is that you don't have to be a genius to write code and it doesn't have to be scary. Zuckerberg talks about starting with small projects that can be built upon.
Code.org's ultimate mission is for every student to have an opportunity to learn how to write code by aggregating resources for students.
