Beverly Hills school official arrested in alleged battery
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - The president of the Beverly Hills school board has been arrested for investigation of battery against an 18-year-old female neighbor, reports CBS Los Angeles.
The Beverly Hills Police Department says Brian Goldberg was arrested Monday evening.
According to police, Goldberg and the 18-year-old, who lives in the same building, got into an argument in the building's elevator about his driving in the facility's garage. The alleged victim told investigators Goldberg shoved her, causing her to strike her head in the elevator.
The woman alleged that after the elevator doors opened, Goldberg shoved her again, knocking her to the ground.
Paramedics responded to the scene. Officers say they observed visible injuries.
CBS Los Angeles reports Goldberg, whose term on the school board expires this year, had previously said he would run for re-election. However, he announced on Tuesday night that he would be temporarily stepping down from his post, though he maintains his innocence.
In a statement read at Tuesday's school board meeting, Goldberg said, "I am completely confident that I will be cleared of any wrongdoing. Nevertheless, I regret that this incident may cause a distraction. I thank everyone for their support and faith in me."
Goldberg reportedly claims he merely brushed up against the 18-year-old. He is scheduled to appear in court in connection with the incident in early May.
