Betsy Ann Brashear arrested for allegedly luring Okla. teen into tanning booth, stripping off her clothes and kissing him
(CBS) BARTLESVILLE, Okla. - A Bartlesville judge charged 24-year-old Betsy Ann Brashear with a felony on Monday after she was accused of luring a teenage boy into a tanning booth at a gym, stripping off her clothes and kissing him, CBS affiliate KOTV-DT reports.
Brashear was charged with lewd acts with a minor under 16, at Washington County District Court. According to an Oklahoma gymnastics website, Brashear is a Bartlesville youth coach.
The 15-year-old boy was accompanying his mother to Colaw Gym on Thursday around midnight. Police said the boy's mother saw Brashear flirting with her son, so she asked other gym members to help her keep an eye on them.
A man who was working out later told the boy's mother that he saw the teen go into a tanning booth with Brashear, an affidavit said.
The mother pounded on the door and when her son answered, Brashear was reportedly attempting to hide in the room. According to the affidavit, the boy's mother then dragged Brashear, who was only wearing a sports bra, out of the room.
When she noticed Brashear was partially nude, the mother let Brashear go because several men were watching, the station reports.
To avoid further confrontation with the boy's mother, Brashear stayed inside the tanning booth until police arrived, the affidavit said.
Investigators said the teenage boy told them the whole incident began when Brashear asked him to spot her on the weights. Then she talked him into going into the tanning booth with her where she stripped off her clothes from the waist down and began kissing him.
Brashear told police she knew the boy was only 15, saying "there was nothing wrong or illegal about giving someone a kiss," and denied taking off her clothes, according to the affidavit.
Police arrested Brashear and booked her into Washington County Jail, where she was released Friday on $20,000 bond.
Court documents said that in condition of the bond, Brashear was ordered to have no contact with any person under 18 who is not a family member.
Brashear is due back in court on July 13.
