Bernie Sanders supporter gets tattoo of Donald Trump after losing election bet
About a year ago, like the rest of the country, Zach Cobert and his best friend Matt Fulton couldn’t stop arguing over politics.
Cobert was an avid Bernie Sanders supporter, while his buddy Fulton was a “yuge” Donald Trump fan.
But they found a way to keep their friendship strong while still holding true to their political beliefs — with a bet.
“We had our differences on who would win the election,” Cobert explained to CBS News. “I was so sure that Bernie Sanders was going to win that I told him I would bet a tattoo on it.”
Fulton took that bet, and agreed, “Not just any tattoo, but the winner of the two.”
This Tuesday, exactly a week after Election Day, Cobert made good on his promise.
Donald Trump had won the presidency, and Fulton reminded Cobert that he had to pay up. Cobert’s family and friends didn’t think he’d actually go through with it, but when he went live on Facebook from 3D Skin Lab in Davenport, Iowa, they realized he was all too serious.
“What was going through my head was disbelief,” Cobert said. “I’m really in this chair right now getting this tattoo.”
More than 15,000 people watched online as Cobert laid down in the chair, ready to get inked on his lower back.
“What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done, Zach?” Cobert’s friend joked.
“This is definitely it,” Cobert responded.
There’s no going back now, Cobert admitted. He spent four hours at the tattoo parlor and even had to return to complete it. But he’s philosophical about his “Trump stamp.”
“I would like to keep it as a bookmark in my life and hopefully, one day, I can get the president-elect to sign it himself,” Cobert said.
