Bernie Sanders gets a taste of South Carolina from Stephen Colbert
NEW YORK -- Fresh off his victory in the New Hampshire Democratic primary, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders drank beer and ate boiled peanuts in honor of South Carolina during an interview with Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show."
Colbert, who is from South Carolina, told Sanders he wanted to educate him about his home state before Sanders heads there to campaign ahead of the South Carolina primary.
"If you need the vote down there, you have to eat boiled peanuts," Colbert said. "Have you ever had a boiled peanut, OK? The recipe is very simple."
Colbert pulled out a small container of peanuts for both of them, and then presented two beers to go along with the nuts. When Sanders took a sip of the beer the crowd cheered.
"This wins me South Carolina?" Sanders asked.
"Yes it does," Colbert said. "If you like boiled peanuts it will certainly give you a leg up in South Carolina. People up here, when I offer them this food, they say, 'Oh, here comes Colbert with more of his damp food.'"
