Ben Savage, Danielle Fishel join "Girl Meets World" pilot
"Boy Meets World" fans, rejoice -- Cory and Topanga are coming back to TV.
Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who played Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence on the popular series, have signed on to reprise the roles in the pilot for the Disney Channel's spinoff, "Girl Meets World."
A rep for the Disney Channel told E! News that this time around, the duo will appear as "a happily married couple and parents to 13-year-old Riley, from whose point of view the story is told."
The pilot is still in the "very early stages" of development and was created/will be executive produced by "Boy Meets World" creator Michael Jacobs, the rep added. A nationwide search is currently under way for Riley.
TVLine first reported the news of Savage and Fishel's casting.
Savage shared the news Monday on his Twitter page:
Fishel wrote a thank you note to fans on her blog, saying in part, "Because I have known Michael Jacobs, Ben Savage, Rider Strong, Will Friedle, and Bill Daniels for 19 years, I know we share many of the same feelings regarding the 7 wonderful years we spent making BMW. Those years were among the most warm, hilarious, insightful, educational years of my life and I wouldn't trade them for the world. Another thing I wouldn't trade for anything is the integrity and the heart with which BMW was made. I promise with the entirety of my heart that we will make GMW with the same honesty, innocence, and intelligence that you learned to expect from BMW."
She added that she did not know how many "Boy Meets World" cast members would appear on the new series, or how often.
"Boy Meets World" ran on ABC from 1993-2000.
